Word O'Ransom carries Klinger to victory in Winning Colors Stakes

Word O'Ransom won the closing-day Winning Colors Stakes at Timonium Race Course yesterday with a patient ride from veteran Omar Klinger.

Klinger stalked the filly Great Harbour for a half-mile before sweeping past the pacesetter at the half-mile pole on the way to a 7 1/2 -length victory.

Trained by Mary Eppler, Word O'Ransom covered the 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:18 2/5 over the fast track. She paid $5.20.

Valley Assault finished second, a half-length ahead of Quite Proper.

A crowd of 13,222 sent $476,733 through the mutuel machines.

Leatherbury, Delgado top standings

King Leatherbury and Alberto Delgado wound up on top of the Timonium trainer and jockey standings, respectively.

Leatherbury saddled his fifth winner of the meeting when Best Lord got home first in the seventh race.

Delgado, with several multi-winner days during the 10-day meeting, finished with 22 victories.
