Don’t miss Orioles players, John Means & Paul Fry, as they guest host at our Brews and O’s event!

Former Orioles utility player Rene Gonzales says that he might be the happiest Angel of all. He was called up from the minor leagues in July and will get to be present for the Ripken record-breaker.

"It's so cool that I get to be there," he said. "It's big. I said last year that I was going to try to be there regardless."

Gonzalez spent several years as one of Ripken's understudies, so he understands the man and he understands the reaction that Ripken is going to get when he takes the field for his 2,131st straight game.

"I don't think some of these guys [the Angels] realize what it's going to be like," he said. "They just think that they are going to see him break the record. He's going to get a standing ovation and it's not going to end."
