25 Years Ago (week of Aug. 23-29, 1970)

* The Howard County State's Attorney's office announced the implementation of a new system that would hopefully shorten the amount of time between a person's arrest and trial: All pending cases would be entered into a Univac computer, thus eliminating human error from the process.

* The county's two landfills, on New Cut Road and Carr's Mill Road, announced that they would no longer be able to accept bulk trash from contractors and builders. This was a result of the statewide ban on open burning that had been put into effect the previous July.

50 Years Ago (week of Aug. 26-Sept. 1, 1945)

* Six men and one juvenile were arrested after police received complaints about a large "craps" game in progress on Fels Lane in Ellicott City.
