Thompson powers Suns by Phillies


HAGERSTOWN -- Andy Thompson drove in two runs in the fifth inning to lead the Hagerstown Suns to a 6-4 victory in the first game of a season-ending, four-game series against the Piedmont Phillies before 2,954 last night at Municipal Stadium.

Josh Spring (1-4) picked up his first victory with 2 1/3 scoreless relief innings, and Brian Smith retired seven of eight batters to earn his 21st save. Smith has gone 49 1/3 innings without allowing an earned run.
