Barry Blau & Partners wins several awards

Barry Blau & Partners of Maryland Inc., a Baltimore direct marketing advertising agency, won multiple awards for projects it created for the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association and Cavanaugh Press.

A print campaign for AOPA's "Project Pilot" won the bronze medal in the John Caples International Awards, direct marketing's most prestigious competition. Built around images of the Wright Brothers, Amelia Earhart and Charles Lindbergh, the campaign also won the Maxi Award from the Direct Marketing Association of Washington, D.C.

Jeffrey Wygant, creative director, Alan Silver, copywriter, and Rob Heck, art director, created the AOPA project.

Blau's capabilities brochure for Cavanaugh Press won the gold District Addy in the "Best in Baltimore" competition. The "Like Clockwork" brochure also received an award from the Art Directors Club of Metropolitan Washington.

Mr. Wygant was creative director and copywriter for the brochure. Mr. Heck was the art director.

According to Adweek magazine, Blau is the largest direct xTC response agency in the mid-Atlantic region and the fifth biggest in the nation. The firm has offices in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Fairfield, Conn., Towson and Germany.

Warner opens offices in Jessup, Hunt Valley

Warner Corp., one of the largest plumbing and electrical service companies in the Washington area, has opened branches in Hunt Valley and Jessup.

William R. Chandler is vice president of Baltimore Operations for Warner Plumbing of Maryland Inc., which plans to open an East Baltimore office within a year.

Among the new firm's clients are the U.S. Postal Service and Sears.

The Postal Service selected Warner as the plumbing contractor for its Glen Burnie distribution facility and 300 post offices around the state.

Ward, Meizlish inducted into Golden Spike Society

Brad Ward, general manager of Travel Destinations Management Group, and Steven Meizlish, president of The Travel Connection, have been inducted into the Golden Spike Society, which honors Amtrak authorized travel agents who produce more than $100,000 in revenues.

Only 247 of 40,000 eligible agents received a Golden Spike award for Fiscal Year 1994. Mr. Ward made the society for his 14th consecutive year while Mr. Meizlish has been honored nine years in a row. Both travel agencies are located in Owings Mills.

Hagan elected to board of LIMRA International

Henry G. Hagan, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Monumental Life Insurance Co., has been elected to the board of directors of LIMRA International, a research organization for the insurance and financial services industry.

Mr. Hagan has been with Monumental Life since 1981. He is the former chairman of LIMRA's Home Service Executive Committee and currently serves on the board of the Life Insurers Conference.

Joyce Stevenson elected president of IREM

Maryland Chapter 16 of the Institute of Real Estate Management elected Joyce C. Stevenson of Crestar Bank president for 1995. Other officers are Leonard I. Frenkil Jr. of the Time Group, president-elect, and Carol A. Jackson of Partners Real Estate Management, secretary-treasurer.

A professional association affiliated with the National Association of Realtors, IREM has 9,000 members who manage about $1 trillion worth of real estate.

Childs appointed head of concrete association

William F. Childs IV, vice president of sales and marketing for Chaney Enterprises, a Waldorf-based provider of concrete and construction supplies, was appointed vice president of the Maryland Ready Mix Concrete Association Inc.

MRMCA has 61 corporate members, including 80 percent of the ready mix concrete producers in Maryland. MRMCA member companies employ over 4,500 people and deliver more than 2.75 million cubic yards of concrete annually.

Gorman and Williams open for business

The law firm of Gorman and Williams has opened for business at the B&O; Building at 2 N. Charles St. David McI. Williams and Francis J. Gorman will continue their practice in litigation/arbitration, general business representation, patent/copyright/trademarks, international trade law and maritime law.
