Blue Jays update

The Blue Jays are mighty no more, sitting last in the American League East and nine games below .500 on the road. The two-time World Series champion Blue Jays unloaded ace starter David Cone to the New York Yankees for three minor-league prospects, so they aren't thinking pennant this year. In fact, Toronto has 11 rookies on its 25-man roster. Before hitting a home run yesterday in the Blue Jays' 11-3 loss to Oakland, Joe Carter had not gone deep in 19 games, and Paul Molitor has just one homer and three RBIs since the All-Star break. Devon White has been hot, however, with a 10-game hitting streak, and is batting .306. Toronto's pitching staff has a 5.07 ERA, fourth worst in the AL, and the team's batting average of .261 also is fourth worst.
