'Dream Vacation Home' in Easton completed

"The Mid-Atlantic Dream Vacation Home" is now a reality. Sitting on a waterfront lot at The Easton Club in Easton, it reflects the tastes and preferences of readers who responded to a survey conducted by Mid-Atlantic Country magazine.

Nanticoke Homes Inc. of Greenwood, Del., built the 3,500-square-foot modular home which is expected to sell for $695,000. Furnishings and accessories will be available for purchase from the interior design firm Builders' Design and Leasing Inc. of Gaithersburg.

A traditional home was the top choice among the 1,873 individuals who responded to the survey. Other choices were modern, ranch and Colonial. Stone, wood and vinyl were the favorite exterior materials.

Features popular with the magazine's readers include fireplaces, ceiling fans, screened porches, sun rooms, cathedral ceilings, decks, recessed track lighting and full basements.

Favorite rooms include eat-in-kitchen, mud room, foyer, family room, great room, living room and formal dining room. On average, the readers wanted between three and four bedrooms and between two and three baths.

Dream kitchen choices include Corian counter tops, ceramic tile flooring, wood cabinets, microwave oven, dishwasher, work island, garbage disposal, single or double oven, down-draft cook top and trash compactor.

In the master bath, vanity storage, water-saving fixtures, two sinks and a whirlpool tub were the desired items.

The Nanticoke house has a grand foyer flanked by a 15-by-15-foot living room and a double-doored 15-by-10-foot study. There is also a 14-by-14-foot dining room, 14-by-15-foot kitchen, 13-by-13-foot breakfast area and 20-by-15-foot family room with fireplace.

There is also a 15-by-12-foot screen porch, 45-by-14-foot deck and a two-car garage with a golf cart area with its own entrance.

The second floor houses four large bedrooms and two full baths.

The Dream Vacation Home will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on four consecutive weekends beginning Oct. 21 and 22.

The $5 admission fee will benefit the 25th annual Waterfowl Festival and Ducks Unlimited, nonprofit organizations working to conserve wetland habitats for waterfowl and other wildlife. A $16 ticket covers entry to the house and the festival.

Mid-Atlantic Country was recently named "1995 Magazine of the Year" by the International Regional Magazine Association. The magazine also earned a gold medal for writing from the City and Regional Magazine Association.

* RE/MAX Advantage Realty of Columbia has racked up $37,714,052 in sales from January through May 1995, the highest in RE/MAX's Central Atlantic Region. Despite being the smallest office with 37 salespersons, RE/MAX Advantage Realty also led the region in listing volume and total volume for the first five months of the year. The firm has been in business for seven years.

RE/MAX International Inc. raised $2.6 million, including $72,500 from the Central Atlantic Region, for the 1995 Children's Miracle Network Television Fund Raiser, which was broadcast from Disneyland in June.

In three years as the charity's real estate corporate sponsor, RE/MAX has donated $7.9 million to CMN, which supports 160 hospitals for children throughout the United States and Canada. Salespersons participating in the RE/MAX Miracle Home Program make a donation for each transaction they initiate.

* Ryland Homes, the nation's third-largest homebuilder, is building a new home for a Montgomery County family in cooperation with Habitat For Humanity and the state of Maryland. The house is one of three being built in Silver Spring on land donated by the county.
