The National Society of Colonial Dames of America has hired Sian B. Jones, a conservation consultant from Art Conservation and Technical Services, to finalize conservation plans for the Mount Clare Museum House. The NSCDA received a grant from the Maryland Historical and Cultural Museum Consultant Program of the Small Museum Association Inc. to aid in hiring Ms. Jones, who will concentrate on guidelines for restoring the museum. The house, located in Carroll Park, needs restoration and maintenance of paintings, furniture and decorative arts that date back to the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
Vivian Adelburg Rudow received another Standard Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, marking her ninth consecutive award from the organization. Ms. Rudow's modern classical work has been performed around the world. "I had a wonderful year," Ms. Rudow notes. "It's very unusual to have as many performances as I did for that kind of music."
The Morgan State University Choir, under the direction of Nathan Carter, will present the fourth annual "Summer Glory" Gospel Celebration of Song Aug. 12. The concert begins at 7 p.m. in the Murphy Auditorium. Also, gospel composer Margaret Douroux invites singers to attend a gospel workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; singers are welcome to participate in the second half of the concert.
