Consultant joins Mount Clare project


The National Society of Colonial Dames of America has hired Sian B. Jones, a conservation consultant from Art Conservation and Technical Services, to finalize conservation plans for the Mount Clare Museum House. The NSCDA received a grant from the Maryland Historical and Cultural Museum Consultant Program of the Small Museum Association Inc. to aid in hiring Ms. Jones, who will concentrate on guidelines for restoring the museum. The house, located in Carroll Park, needs restoration and maintenance of paintings, furniture and decorative arts that date back to the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

ASCAP award

Vivian Adelburg Rudow received another Standard Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, marking her ninth consecutive award from the organization. Ms. Rudow's modern classical work has been performed around the world. "I had a wonderful year," Ms. Rudow notes. "It's very unusual to have as many performances as I did for that kind of music."

Gospel music

The Morgan State University Choir, under the direction of Nathan Carter, will present the fourth annual "Summer Glory" Gospel Celebration of Song Aug. 12. The concert begins at 7 p.m. in the Murphy Auditorium. Also, gospel composer Margaret Douroux invites singers to attend a gospel workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; singers are welcome to participate in the second half of the concert. Holiday photos

Then the Maryland State Fair wants to judge your 3.5-by-5-inch or 4-by-6-inch snapshot for the Family Holiday Celebrations Snapshot Contest. you might enter your favorite fine-arts miniature painting that fits into an 8-by-10-inch frame in the Fine Arts Miniature Contest. Singers in all voice parts are being sought by the Handel Music Choir of Baltimore, Maryland's oldest choral society. Singers must be able to sight-read music and must have choral experience. Auditions are by appointment only through August. To schedule an audition, call (410) 366-6544.

* The Mornington Players' production of Noel Coward's comedy "Blithe Spirit" needs five female actors ages 20 to 55 years, and two male actors ages 35 to 55 years. * The Chosen Generation Theater Project will hold auditions Aug. 5 for its gospel-music extravaganza, "A Journey for Salvation." * The Performance Workshop Theatre Company plans to conduct auditions for its production of "Mixed Doubles/An Entertainment on Marriage" Aug. 6-8. Call for exhibitors

Mayor Kurt L. Schmoke, the Mayor's Advisory Committee on Art and Culture, and School 33 Art Center announce a regional call for artists within a 75-mile radius of Baltimore City to participate in a Spring 1996 Juried Exhibition. Olga Viso, assistant curator of contemporary art for the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, will select artists' work, in all media. The application deadline is Oct. 28.
