Two teens hospitalized after car strikes tree


Two teen-agers were hospitalized at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center after their car hit a tree in Owen Brown village yesterday morning.

Police are investigating the cause of the 3 a.m. single-car accident at Cradlerock Way and Mossy Brink Court.

The driver of the car, 18-year-old Antoine Taylor, suffered an asthma attack while running for help after the accident and was transported to Howard County General. Later in the day he was flown to Shock Trauma, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

Passenger Charles Avery, 16, was trapped in the car for 45 minutes. He was transported to Shock Trauma with a fractured femur. He was listed in stable condition.

Young School to have pre-grand opening

A pre-grand opening of the Young School, a new private elementary school on 9 acres, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon tomorrow at 7175 Riverwood Drive.

* Long Reach: 8600 block of Cobblefield Drive: A gray 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass with Maryland tags 380-AVW was stolen Wednesday or yesterday, police said.

8300 block of Tamar Drive: Police say someone with a handgun approached a person delivering fliers for Domino's Pizza yesterday shortly after midnight, but nothing was taken.

* Owen Brown: 9300 block of Hickory Limb: Someone pried open the rear kitchen window of a residence between Monday and Tuesday evening. Nothing was taken, police said.

* Oakland Mills: 6000 block of Stevens Forest Road: A thief entered a construction trailer at Stevens Forest Elementary School yesterday and stole a fax machine, police said.
