Severn man critically hurt in accident


A Severn man was hospitalized in critical condition yesterday after his car was involved in a collision with a 1991 Chevy pick-up truck on U.S. 1 near Savage.

James Leffel Jr., 37, was driving south of Mission Road on U.S. 1 at 10 a.m. when he attempted to turn left into a driveway. Steven Reamer, of the 1200 block of Marriottsville Road, was driving north on U.S. 1, and his truck hit Mr. Leffel's 1989 Ford Escort, sending it across the road, where it hit a curb and overturned onto the grass.

Mr. Leffel, of the 1400 block of Illinois Ave. in Severn, was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. Mr. Reamer was taken to Howard County General Hospital, where he was treated for injuries and released.

Police are investigating the accident.
