BOWIE -- Starter Antonio Alfonseca pitched seven scoreless innings and Pookie Wilson had four hits, three RBIs and four runs scored to lead the Portland Sea Dogs to a 13-0 rout of the Bowie Baysox in a Double-A Eastern League game last night.
With the defeat, the Baysox surrendered first place in the Southern Division to the Trenton Thunder, which moved a half-game in front after beating New Britain, 4-2.
Alfonseca (7-2) is 3-0 against Bowie this year. In three starts, he has not allowed the Baysox a run and has permitted only 11 hits. He is also unbeaten on the road (4-0).
Portland (64-40), the Northern Division leader, got all the runs it needed with a five-run first inning against Tom Wegmann (0-2). Jimmy Kremers climaxed the rally with a three-run homer with two outs.
Wilson homered with the bases empty against Wegmann in the second and doubled home two runs in the fifth against Jeff Faino.
The defeat ended a three-game winning streak for the Baysox, who are 6-5 on their longest homestand with the finale scheduled against Portland tonight.
Bowie (52-51) managed just seven singles against Alfonseca and Jarod Juelsgaard and advanced only three runners into scoring position.
