Three Baltimore men who were injured when their van crashed into a traffic signal pole on Route 175 in Columbia's Town Center Thursday were recovering rapidly at week's end, but Howard County police said they expect to bring unspecified traffic charges against the driver.
The driver, James Mackie Lowery, 43, of the 1300 block of Pratt St., was listed in fair and stable condition yesterday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. Police said Mr. Lowery was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
The front-seat passenger, Jeffrey Bird, 32, of the 1300 block of N. Central St., was discharged from the trauma center Friday. The rear-seat passenger, Darryl Stewart, 35, of the 2200 block of W. Fayette St., was treated for minor injuries at Howard County General Hospital Thursday and released.
Police said Mr. Lowery was driving a Dodge Ram van west on Route 175 at 6 p.m. Thursday when he lost control of the vehicle and it went over a curb and struck a signal post at the Governor Warfield Parkway intersection.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident, police said.
