25 Years Ago (Week of July 12-18, 1970)

* The vice president of the local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People spoke at a Board of Education meeting to express concern about "subtle discrimination" that he felt was being practiced in Howard County schools. Areas of concern included Board of Education relations with the black community, an increase in racial incidents in schools, and the hiring and assignment of minority teachers.

50 Years Ago (Week of July 15-21, 1945):

* County and state police raided an Ellicott City photographer's studio, which resulted in the confiscation of a quantity of pornographic books and pictures. The studio's proprietor was arrested and held on $1,500 bail. Fifteen customers were questioned and released.
