Two men were flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore yesterday after a van carrying three people slammed into a pole, stopping rush hour traffic in downtown Columbia for nearly half an hour.
A third man was taken to Howard County General Hospital with unspecified injuries, fire and rescue personnel said. Names of the victims and the extent of their injuries were not immediately available.
The gray Dodge Ram van struck a traffic light pole about 6:15 p.m., police said, shattering the windshield and cutting into the middle of the van's front end at Little Patuxent and Governor Warfield parkways.
The driver suffered head injuries and was taken by state police helicopter to Shock Trauma Center. One passenger suffered abdominal injuries and also was taken to the Shock Trauma Center.
