I sat at my desk this morning
and all I could think about was food
I don't know why I always do that.
It occurred to me that hunger is a big part of my life.
And I hunger for different things.
Food is the most important one.
I thought about how I was driven by my hungers
and how poignant it might be to control
rather than be controlled
I saw a brief moment of novelty
in letting myself stay hungry
just for a little while.
To let the hunger build
and grow and press in on you so hard
that you can't resist satisfying your hunger
The hunger, which may or may not be a necessity,
becomes an obsession
a driving force working inside of you
that you control.
You can see what I'm getting at
I hunger for different things
and food isn't the only one . . .
