Hurricane of 1936

THE BALTIMORE SUN

With his face barely reaching the window sill,

he watched his playhouse blow away,

tumbling across rumpled backyards,

carried as fragile as a brown, crisp leaf

by ironfisted gusts.

and rope-rain.

He saw it disappear behind a gray garage.

Later he learned a neighbor cut it up for firewood.
