Woman killed in 2-vehicle crash is identified

State police identified the victim of Tuesday's fatal accident at Route 97 and Old Liberty Road West as Viola May Wilson, 81, of Fort Myers, Fla.

The woman was alone in her 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera station wagon driving west on Old Liberty Road and failed to stop at a flashing red light at Washington Road, police said. She was struck broadside by a northbound Ford pickup truck.

Two men in the truck were taken to Carroll County General Hospital and released after treatment, officers said. The driver, Mark E. Hartman, 35, of Silver Run suffered neck injuries and his passenger, Roland L. Cox Jr., 38, of Taneytown suffered chest injuries, according to police.

Officers said there were no skid marks from the Oldsmobile. Ms. Wilson was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where she was pronounced dead several hours after the crash.
