County police arrested a Riva man Saturday morning for allegedly backing into a car, fleeing the scene of the accident, running over the foot of a man who tried to stop him and shoving two officers who arrested him, officials said.
Cpl. William Engles of the Southern District stopped a 1994 Chevrolet Beretta about 2:10 a.m. for speeding at Riva Road near Riva Trace Parkway. As he wrote the driver a ticket for speeding, the police dispatcher told him the Beretta was a suspect vehicle in a hit-and-run accident at Buddy's Late Night on Hudson Street in Annapolis a few minutes earlier, police said.
When Officer Engles ordered the man out of the car, he allegedly shoved the officer. Officer Engles and Officer Robert Russo, who had arrived as backup, arrested the man, who struggled with the duo and also shoved Officer Russo, they said.
Jamie Adam Nimo, 22, of the 3000 block of Centre Road in Riva was brought to the scene and identified the driver as the man who ran over his foot, police said.
Robert Jeffrey Adler, 39, of the 100 block of Crane's Crook Lane was charged with two counts of assault, resisting arrest, failure to stop after hitting an unattended vehicle, failure to remain at the scene of an accident involving bodily injury and speeding,
Man arrested after raid
Narcotics detectives raided an Edgewater home Friday night and arrested a man after seizing a gram of suspected crack cocaine and nearly nine grams of suspected marijuana, county police said.
Members of the Southern District tactical narcotics team raided the house in the 100 block of Dorsey Drive about 11:45 p.m. and found the suspected drugs and assorted drug paraphernalia, including a scale, police said.
Kelvin Wendell Smith, 35, who lives in the house, was charged with possession of crack cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, police said.
