State police arrested two Baltimore men Friday afternoon on handgun and theft charges after finding a loaded semiautomatic handgun in the car in which they were riding, officials said.
Trooper Kip Adelhardt stopped a 1986 Ford Escort that was traveling west on the Baltimore Beltway near the Nursery Road exit about 2:30 p.m. because it had a cracked windshield.
The trooper asked a dispatcher to check the car's license tag number in a police computer and learned the tags were stolen. He arrested the men in the car and found a loaded .380-caliber Grendel semiautomatic handgun in the glove compartment, police said.
Samuel Charman Garrison III, 26, of the 600 block of E. Cator Ave. and Maurice Terrell Jones, 19, of the 2300 block of O'Dell Ave. were charged with transporting a handgun in a vehicle on a public highway, misdemeanor theft and carrying a dangerous and deadly weapon.
