Roddy, Fernandez are junior winners


Jon Roddy, 17, from Potomac Country Club in Tantallon, shot a 1-under-par 38-33--71 yesterday to lead the field of teen-agers in a Middle Atlantic PGA Pro-Junior tournament at Rocky Point Golf Course.

Jessica Fernandez, 16, a Sparrows Point CC member who is entering her senior year at Patapsco High School, won the girls division, 42-38--80.

The top three players in each of five divisions qualified for the Nordlinger Cup tournament, symbolic of the MAPGA Junior championship, to be played next month.

Roddy, the reigning Middle Atlantic junior champion, who will be entering his senior year at Bishop McNamara, included seven birdies in his tour of the course in Baltimore County.

Ryan McKinney, 16, from Longview GC, had five birdies in taking second at 37-35--72.

There was a three-way tie for low pro at 70 among Ed Miller, Rocky Point GC; Jim Kar--, Furnace Branch Golf Center, and Andy Barbin, Chesapeake Bay GC.
