Marketing society names officers, board
Nine local marketing professionals have been appointed officers and members of the board of the Chesapeake Chapter of the Society for Marketing Professional Services.
New officers include: president, Alyce Heather Kirk, DRBrasher Architects, Columbia; acting vice president, Timothy S. Elliott, CS&D; Architects, Baltimore; treasurer, Jacquelyn Conway Shingeck, Probst-Mason Inc., Baltimore; secretary, Stephanie DiStefano, Leach Wallace Associates, Baltimore; membership chairman, Christine Bull of Marks, Thomas & Associates, Inc., Baltimore; programs chairman, Kevin Bowes, Birchfield Food Systems, Annapolis; publicity chairman, Deborah Lacey, Purdum and Jeschke, Baltimore.
Two directors at large were also appointed: Thomas Mohler of Greiner Inc., Timonium; and John R. Turner, Zeidler Roberts Partnership Inc., Baltimore.
The Society for Marketing Professional Services, headquartered in Washington, is a national organization of marketing professionals in the design and building industry.
Risk-management firm has Severna Park office
Leslie T. White has established LTW Risk Managers in Severna Park. It provides services to businesses and nonprofit organizations.
The firm will advise businesses on how to avoid or minimize adverse effects from accidental losses by providing audits to identify loss exposures, create disaster-recovery plans and provide awareness training and insurance reviews.
Howard EDA honored for marketing materials
The Howard County Economic Development Authority earned "Best of Class" award at the American Economic Development Council's 1995 Sales Literature and Promotional Materials Awards Competition.
The awards recognize economic development organizations for creating marketing materials to attract and retain businesses and to promote tourism and growth.
Howard County won the Best of Class for its "1994 Annual Report" and a Superior award in the special event category for its First Annual Equal Business Opportunity Expo.
Now in its 37th year, the competition attracted 800 entries from economic development organizations in the United States and abroad.
Corporate Express buys 3 contract stationers
Corporate Express Inc., an office products supplier with regional headquarters in Baltimore, announced the acquisition of three contract stationers in Canada, Florida and Missouri.
It has acquired: Murphy Stationary Co., Ltd. in Vancouver for $4.8 million, excluding its retail operation, which was sold to another party; Decora Office in Fort Lauderdale for $10 million; and Schooley Inc. in Kansas City for $5.7 million.
Founded in 1986 in Boulder, Colo., Corporate Express operates in 100 locations, including 34 warehouses, and employs 4,800 people.
Lombard Securities adds Piendak to board
George A. Piendak, director of public finance at Lombard Securities Inc., has been elected to its board of directors.
He is also president of GAP Finance Inc., a local financial advisory and consulting firm.
Before joining Lombard Securities in 1993, Mr. Piendak, a securities broker, was vice president of public finance with Alex. Brown & Sons Inc.
Lombard Securities, a securities brokerage firm dealing in stocks, bonds, mutual funds and annuities, serves individuals and institutions in 38 states.
Methode Electronics will move testing lab
Methode Electronics Inc. has purchased a 16,200-square-foot building in Hunt Valley for a test laboratory for its Trace Laboratories subsidiary, relocating its smaller laboratory from the Baltimore/Washington International Airport annex.
The new laboratory will more than double Methode's testing capacity on the East Coast. Testing is also performed at the company's main laboratory in Chicago.
Methode, founded in 1984, provides independent laboratory services for corporations for testing circuit boards, connection devices and other components used in aerospace and transportation.
The laboratories also serve its parent company in the development of technology in data and voice communications components, electronic data processing devices and automobile safety and security connectors and controls.
Americom honored by Bell Atlantic Mobile
Timonium-based Americom, a cellular and wireless communications company, has been chosen as Bell Atlantic Mobile's 1994 Key Agent of the Year.
Bell Atlantic Mobile bases the award on the previous year's sales performance, customer retention, business integrity and customer service.
Americom has sales offices in Timonium and Columbia. It employs 140 people.
Michael Hodes to join commission on aging
Michael C. Hodes, founder and managing director of the law firm of Hodes, Ulman, Pessin & Katz, has been appointed to a three-year term on the Baltimore County Commission on Aging.
Mr. Hodes specializes in elder law, estate and financial planning, franchise law and general business matters, and he heads Michael Hodes Financial Consultants Ltd. He is a former trustee of the State of Maryland Retirement System.
Adams Sandler garners 13 awards of PR society
Adams Sandler Inc., the Maryland division of the international public relations firm Shandwick, has been honored with nine Best in Maryland awards by the Public Relations Society of America.
The firm received first-place awards for five public relations programs and projects: campaigns for New York Life's HealthPlus managed health care program, Chase Manhattan Bank of Maryland, St. Joseph Hospital in Lancaster, Pa., and two awards for the U.S. Catholic Conference's Catholic Communication Campaign.
The firm, founded in 1956, also won three second-place and one third-place award.
