On the field: Juan Guzman had a 7.81 ERA going into last night's start, with 30 walks in 40 1/3 innings. But he dominated the Orioles, walking only one and giving up seven hits in his first complete game of the year. Chris Hoiles struck out three times in four at-bats, his average sinking to .171. DH Harold Baines had three of the Orioles' hits, including a bases-empty homer in the ninth.

In the dugout: Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston, trying to plug holes, had Joe Carter in center field in his initial starting lineup last night. But just prior to game time, he switched his alignment, bumping right fielder Shawn Green with center fielder Mike Huff, moving Carter to left and Candy Maldonado from left to right.

In the clubhouse: "I haven't seen him any better." -- Orioles manager Phil Regan on Guzman, whom he has seen pitch in winter ball, too.
