Career record

Except for brief call-ups in 1992 and 1993, this is his first season in the majors. Played 231 Triple-A games in 1993 and 1994. Last season, formed Rochester's first 30-steal tandem with Damon Buford. Played all but 47 of his minor-league games at shortstop.

Born in and still lives in San Pedro de Macoris, a part of the Dominican Republic that is famous for producing shortstop prospects. Turned 24 on March 20. Has 10 brothers.

Favorite food

"I usually eat Spanish food. But my favorite food from the States is steak and eggs back in the hotel on road trips. I usually eat it when I get up 8:30 in the morning on the road."

How he spends time on the road

"What I do is watch TV. I like to watch 'Baseball Tonight,' 'SportsCenter' and some movies."

Favorite movies

"I like all the Rocky Balboa movies. They are my favorite movies to watch again and again."

Favorite player to watch

Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Roberto Alomar. "He's great and an unbelievable player. He's always making great plays. I like watching him a lot."

Most memorable moment

"In 1992, when I got called up. I played shortstop one inning in Cleveland."

Most embarrassing moment

"I had a lot of bad moments. But the worst was when I made two errors against New York the first time they were here. A ball bounced out of my glove and I blew an easy ground-ball double play. That had to be the worst."

If he weren't playing baseball

"I probably be in the car business or some other line of business like that."

Favorite road city

California. "You can always have a lot of fun out there because the weather is so nice."

Favorite music group/performers

"Anything with reggae. I also like Hammer, Bobby Brown and Ice-T."

Most influential coach

Don Buford. "He's helped a lot of Latino players. He's been there a lot for me at Rookie and A ball and then through Double-A and Triple-A."

Hardest adjustment to the United States

"When I first came here, I didn't speak English. It was pretty hard for me to eat and everything. Sometimes I had to wait for someone to order food, so I could order the same."

Orioles he hangs around with

Jeffrey Hammonds and Leo Gomez.
