Mike Wooden (North County), Andy Bair (Calvert Hall) and Joe Barnes (Old Mill) are the only Marylanders playing on the National Amateur Baseball Federation's All-Star Team in this week's third annual National Amateur All-Star Tournament in Pine Bluff, Ark.
The squad, which left Sunday to compete in a weeklong round-robin series of games against other major amateur baseball affiliations, is 2-0 with wins over the Pony All-Stars (6-5 on Tuesday) and Pine Bluff (8-5 yesterday).
Barnes, a second-team All-Metro selection, had two hits in the victory over Pine Bluff and had a triple and a sacrifice bunt that scored the winning run against the Pony All-Stars.
Bair will be on the mound today as NABF takes on the Dixie All-Stars. The NABF plays the Babe Ruth All-Stars tomorrow night.
Bair was The Baltimore Sun's two-time All-Metro Player of the Year and was named in USA Today as the Player of the Year for Maryland.
Wooden (North County) closed in Tuesday's victory over Pony. The All-Metro right-hander took the mound with one out and men on first and third before inducing the second batter to ground out and striking out the last one.
The tournament title game, scheduled to be played on Saturday, will be televised Sunday at noon on ESPN, and again on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
