Pair arrested on drug charges after car is stopped

A Pennsylvania man and a Bowie woman were arrested on drug charges early yesterday after a Southern District officer found 52 grams of suspected marijuana in the car they were riding in, county police said.

Officer Francis Tewey stopped a 1988 Chevrolet for speeding about 2 a.m. at the intersection of Solomons Island Road and Forest Drive. He arrested the driver -- identified as James Russell Wilson, 21, of Andover, Pa. -- after learning his driver's license was suspended. Officer Tewey searched the car and found a suspected marijuana cigarette in the ash tray and more suspected marijuana and a pipe in a small wooden container, police said.

Officer Tewey then arrested the passenger -- identified as Marie Suzanne Vesterby, 24, of the 12000 block of Canfield Lane -- and searched her. The woman allegedly was carrying 52 grams of suspected marijuana in a plastic bag. She said that she was holding the bag for the driver, police said.

Mr. Wilson and Ms. Vesterby were charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
