County police arrested a Baltimore man Tuesday for allegedly shoplifting a $19 pair of tennis shoes from a Payless Shoe store in the Cromwell Field Shopping Center, officials said.
Dawn Moyers, 33, manager of the store in the 7300 block of Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd., told police that a man came in shortly after 10 a.m., put the shoes in a shopping bag and left without paying for them. Ms. Moyers called the police.
Cpl. Robert Anderson stopped a man who fitted the suspect's description at the Cromwell light rail stop. Northern District Officer Ralph Greaves took the man back to the store, where he was identified, police said.
Phillip Brown, 27, of the 900 block of Argyle Ave., was charged with misdemeanor theft. He also was charged with giving a false statement to officers because he told them his name was Broderick Patterson, police said.
Teen steals bicycle from Brooklyn Park boy
A 12-year-old Brooklyn Park boy handed over his bicycle Tuesday afternoon to an older boy who threatened to punch him, county police said.
The boy -- whose name was not released -- was riding with a friend about 3 p.m. near Belle Grove Road and Fifth Avenue, where another boy aged about 16 or 17 asked if he could borrow the bicycle.
When the boy refused, the older youth said he was taking the bicycle anyway and threatened to "bang" the boy if he didn't hand it over. The boy surrendered his 12-speed mountain bicycle to the mugger, police said.
