25 Years Ago (Week of June 7-13, 1970)
Following the establishment by the County Council of a revised salary plan for Howard County employees, a number of employees in the Office of Planning began to discuss organizing a labor union.
Groundbreaking took place for construction of the first phase of Columbia's Mall. It was estimated that the mall would be completed by August 1971.
50 Years Ago (Week of June 10-16, 1945)
The Patapsco Grange No. 403 met at the Howard County Freezer Locker. The subject of the evening's lecture was "Postwar Agriculture and Cooperation," which included a discussion of possible trends in postwar farm machinery.
Miss Betty V. Jackson of Glenelg was elected president of the Women's League at the University of Maryland for the coming year.
