A Texas man has been charged with robbing a North Laurel motel early Sunday after a dispute with a clerk over a room deposit, Howard County police said.
There were no injuries during the incident at the Valencia Motel in the 10000 block of U.S. 1.
Police said a customer argued with motel clerk Abduldayem Maan Saleem at 3 a.m. Sunday about money he said he had left as a deposit.
At one point, police said, the man pushed Mr. Saleem, took an undisclosed amount of cash and ran north on U.S. 1. Laurel police officers using dogs searched for the man but lost his trail at North Laurel Road.
About three hours later, a Howard County officer returned to the motel, found the man in one of the rooms and arrested him, police said.
Bernardo Silva Perez, 32, of Houston was charged with robbery, theft and assault. He was released from the Howard County Detention Center on an unsecured $1,000 bond yesterday morning, a court commissioner said.
