The smallest town in the county will keep the area's lowest property tax rate for another year.
The New Windsor Town Council last week approved a budget that calls for maintaining the rate at 45 cents per $100 of assessed value. Residents also pay a county tax rate, which is $2.35.
"We are a small town with good management," said Mayor Jack A. Gullo Jr. "People who live here are fiscally conservative and it's a practice that carries over into government."
The town pays no administrative salaries and relies heavily on volunteers to manage its programs. New Windsor is experiencing growth. Three new developments are in various stages.
The present population of 850 eventually could triple when all planned construction is completed.
