Devils' Driver out for Game 4?

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New Jersey Devils may be without a key defenseman when they meet the Philadelphia Flyers today in Game 4 of the NHL Eastern Conference finals.

Bruce Driver left the ice early at the Meadowlands Arena yesterday afternoon, dressed quickly and left, saying he was not feeling well.

Devils coach Jacques Lemaire, describing it as a "little problem," said it was an injury. And Driver was seen exiting the Devils' locker room holding what appeared to be an ice pack or a heat pad to his upper left thigh -- suggesting that if there is an injury, it might be groin-related.

The Devils were mum on the nature of Driver's problem. Chris McAlpine, a rookie who has yet to see action in the playoffs, likely would dress in Driver's place, although his playing time surely would be limited.

McAlpine said he was unsure of Driver's status.

Another defenseman, Ken Daneyko, said when asked about Driver's condition: "I don't know if I'm supposed to tell you. He'll be playing, though, I'm sure."
