$2 million grants set for anti-drug programs
The Governor's Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission has selected 26 new programs throughout the state to receive almost $2 million in federal drug control grants.
Four of the programs are in Carroll County:
* Sykesville: $13,125 for drug K-9 assistance.
* Countywide: $70,087 for an addiction treatment services-detention center.
* Westminster: $33,417 for a community-based drug enforcement team.
* Taneytown: $13,125 for K-9 drug interdiction.
The grants are administered by the Governor's Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission and are from the Edward Byrne Memorial State and Local Law Enforcement Assistance Program.
The awards emphasize partnerships between law enforcement and residents and cost-effective sanction programs for
nonviolent drug addicted offenders.
