Baltimore man held on drug charges

Howard County detectives staking out a suspected drug dealer in Jessup Tuesday night stopped a vehicle and seized 64 glass vials of crack cocaine.

Police arrested Roosevelt Pyles Jr., 51, of the 1100 block of Carey St. in Baltimore. Mr. Pyles was being held at the Howard County Detention Center on $100,000 bond after a bail review hearing in Howard District Court yesterday, a commissioner said.

He is charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and three counts of cocaine distribution, said Sgt. Steve Keller, a police spokesman.

Police obtained warrants based on previous drug sales they said were made to undercover detectives. Detectives set up surveillance along Assateague Drive after 8 p.m. Tuesday, stopped Mr. Pyles in his 1984 Ford pickup, searched the vehicle and arrested him, Sergeant Keller said.

Officers confiscated 20 plastic bags containing about 8 grams of crack cocaine and 64 vials containing 79 grams of the drug. Mr. Pyles' truck and $141 in cash he carried were seized under drug forfeiture rules, police said.
