A man serving a term at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center for drug distribution was arrested Saturday afternoon in an attempt to smuggle drugs back into the jail when he returned from his work-release job, county police said yesterday.
Officer Gary Ness, a guard at the Detention Center, searched the man when he returned from working for a landscaping company about 3 p.m. and found a small, clear bag containing a substance that looked like crack cocaine in the man's pocket. It later field tested positive, police said.
It is standard procedure for Detention Center guards to search all inmates returning from work-release, police said.
Markus Gerard Dixon, 21, of Edgewood Street in Baltimore was charged with possession of crack cocaine. A spokeswoman at the Detention Center said Dixon was sentenced to concurrent 12-month terms for drug distribution and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle this year. She would not identify the company he was working for.
