Odenton girl shot in head at party dies

A 14-year-old Odenton girl died Sunday morning, the victim of a Saturday night shooting at a party in Glen Burnie.

Nicole Bastan-Siar, who lived on Williamsburg Lane, was pronounced dead at 10:15 a.m. at North Arundel Hospital, a hospital spokesman said. She was shot once in the head with a bullet from a snub-nosed, .38-caliber revolver, said Officer Randy Bell, a police spokesman.

A 15-year-old Glen Burnie boy who took the gun to the party at an apartment in the 7700 block of Oakwood Road has been questioned by police and released pending further investigation. A second boy who was in the bedroom where Nicole was shot also was questioned and released, police said.

Nicole was at the apartment with seven other juveniles and the adult couple who rents the apartment shortly before 11:30 p.m., when the girl, the 15-year-old boy and another boy whose age was not released went into a back bedroom, police said.

The 15-year-old showed the handgun to Nicole and the other boy. He removed the bullets and reloaded the gun. Under circumstances police say still are unclear, one shot was fired from the gun, hitting the girl.

Both boys panicked and fled, Officer Bell said. While they ran through yards in the neighborhood, they threw away the bullets and the gun. Police found one of the bullets but have not recovered the gun.

Police picked up both boys shortly after the shooting for questioning, Officer Bell said.

Investigators still are looking for the gun and ask anyone with information to call Detective Norman Milligan at 222-3450.
