Charles series has Russian Oscar winner

Cinema Sundays at the Charles will continue this weekend with the showing of the film from Russia that recently won the Academy Award for best foreign film.

The Charles is contractually obligated not to release the name of the films it shows during the Cinema Sundays program.

The film will be introduced by Scott Shane, The Sun's reporter stationed in Moscow during the breakup of the Soviet Union and author of the recently published book, "Dismantling Utopia, How Information Ended the Soviet Union." He will be introduced by moderator George Udel.

The film was written and directed by and stars Nikita Mikhalkov, whose daughter also has a starring role. Set in a summer dacha, the film tells the story of the fall of a Hero of the People that foreshadows the beginning of the Stalinist purges.

The program will begin at 10 a.m. at the Charles Theater and includes a brunch. Ticket are $13. Tickets for the remaining two films in the series are $25. The purchase of series tickets includes additional benefits such as discount coupons. Call Mr. Udel at (410) 366-8675 for information.
