OK for phone tower to be sought today

A communications company will ask a county hearing officer today for permission to build a 250-foot-tall cellular phone tower off Mountain Road.

The proposal by West Shore Communications Inc. would exceed county regulations governing height, buffer area and property setback.

Neighbors met Tuesday night with Del. John R. Leopold to discuss their concerns and said they will raise the same issues at the hearing.

West Shore Communications also has pending before the county Board of Appeals a request for a 250-foot-tall communications tower next to the Arundel Volunteer Fire Department on Davidsonville Road. The initial request was denied by Administrative Hearing Officer Robert C. Wilcox.

Today's hearing before Mr. Wilcox will be in the Arundel Center in Annapolis at 10 a.m.
