NL -- Suspended Florida Marlins 3B Terry Pendleton for four games and fined him an undisclosed amount for making contact with an umpire during a game Wednesday. Pendleton has appealed and is eligible to play pending a hearing.

Orioles -- Placed P John Shea on the 40-man roster for 24 hours for procedural reasons. He cleared waivers and was returned to Triple-A Rochester.

Boston Red Sox -- Purchased the contract of OF Ron Mahay from Double-A Trenton. Placed OF Lee Tinsley on the 15-day DL. Signed OF Cory Snyder to a minor-league contract.

Chicago White Sox -- Sent P Steve Gajkowski and P Mike Mongiello from Triple-A Nashville to Double-A Birmingham.

Houston Astros -- Placed P Mike Hampton on the 15-day DL, retroactive to May 15. Purchased the contract of OF Mike Simms from Triple-A Tucson.

Milwaukee Brewers -- Placed P Cal Eldred on the 15-day DL. Recalled P Ron Rightnowar from Triple-A New Orleans.

St. Louis Cardinals -- Agreed to terms with OF Ray Lankford on a one-year contract.

San Francisco Giants -- Signed P Rod Beck to a one-year contract.


G; Golden State Warriors -- Named Rick Adelman head coach.


Big South Conference -- Named UMBC Senior 1B Jason Pruitt dTC (Bel Air), sophomore 2B Jeff Berman (Dulaney) and junior 3B Mike Martin (North Hagerstown) to the 1995 first team. Named Towson State OF James Vallillo to the second team.

Big West Conference -- Announced the suspension of its football league following the 1995 season.

Brigham Young -- Expelled DB James Heggins, DB Greg Steele, DB James Humes, WR Horace Tisdale and RB Tony Hicks for disciplinary reasons.

Duke -- Announced the resignation of Pete Gaudet, men's assistant basketball coach.

Salisbury State University -- Named its winter and spring sports team Most Valuable Players. Named were: Kathleen Castelli (women's tennis), Matt Salisbury (men's tennis), Noreen Zuiderhof (women's swimming), Matt Raschka (men's swimming), Lauren Spears (softball), Nichole Clark (women's lacrosse), Brian McClellan (baseball), Kim Roth (women's basketball), Kyle Jefferson (men's basketball), Byron Pugh (men's track) and Jen Harrison (women's track).


Cleveland Browns -- Acquired TE Harold Bishop from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for an undisclosed draft choice.

Dallas Cowboys -- Agreed to terms with P John Jett on a one-year contract.

Green Bay Packers -- Named Barry Rubin strength and 'f conditioning assistant.

Jacksonville Jaguars -- Signed WR Cedric Tillman.

New York Jets -- Signed WR Stevie Anderson and G Everett McIver to four-year contracts.

San Diego Chargers -- Re-signed TE Deems Mays and TE Shannon Mitchel.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Signed TE Tyji Armstrong to a three-year contract.


NHL -- Suspended St. Louis Blues RW Glenn Anderson for one game and fined him $1,000 for a high-sticking incident against Vancouver.

Anaheim Mighty Ducks -- Announced that C Stephan Lebeau has left the team to play with Lugano in Switzerland.

Boston Bruins -- Fired assistant coach Tom McVie.
