East Carolina -- Named Lane Odom assistant men's basketball coach.
Johns Hopkins -- Named Cockeysville native and St. Paul's graduate Tim Downes associate director of athletics. Downes, who served as the Patriot League's assistant executive director for compliance and championships for two years, will fill the position created by the promotion of Tom Calder to director of athletics.
Illinois State -- Announced the resignation of C. J. Kupec, assistant athletic director, to take a similar position at Maryland.
Maryland -- Senior P Ed Haughey was named to the GTE Academic All-District II University Division Baseball Team. Senior Jeff Wagner is the 1995 recipient of the Bosey Berger Trophy, an award presented annually to Maryland's most outstanding player. Wagner, a four-year starter and a native of Sykesville, leads the team in hits (61), home runs (eight) and RBIs (37) and ranks third in the ACC in stolen bases with 22.
Michigan -- Announced that interim coach Lloyd Carr will be the head coach of the football team through the 1995 season.
Towson State -- Senior WR Mark Orlando was honored as Male Athlete of the Year and sophomore F Trinette Tucker was named Female Athlete of the Year. Senior volleyball player Christy Hudson was the winner of the Alumni Association Academic Achievement Award as the top senior scholar-athlete. Junior P and DH Jen Weaver was selected to the GTE District 2 All-Academic softball team. Weaver, of Elkton, carries a 3.28 grade-point average, batted a team-high .377 with seven home runs and 24 RBIs and had a 12-4 record as a pitcher, with a 1.75 ERA.
Western Maryland -- Seniors Carolyn Kelsey of Port Republic (Calvert) and Jenny Stewart of St. Charles, Ill., were selected to the GTE Academic All-America College Division District II softball team.
