Houston Rockets -- Placed G Vernon Maxwell on indefinite leave of absence.

Curt Gowdy Award -- Awarded to Dick Enberg of NBC Sports and Bob Hammel, sports editor of the Herald-Times in Bloomington, Ind., for broadcast and print coverage of basketball.

College

Goucher -- Announced that junior A Courtney Crangi, junior M Michelle Mehlman, sophomore G Crystal Butcher and freshman A Kristin Carey (Towson) were named first-team All-Capital Athletic Conference and senior M Sherri Malley (Chesapeake-AA), junior D Meredith Brown, junior D Nichole Marconi and sophomore D Kim Donoghue were named to the second team.

Liberty -- Announced that assistant basketball coach Mark Miller has resigned to become head basketball coach at Ravenscroft Prep High School in Raleigh, N.C.

Montana State-Billings -- Named Craig Carse as basketball coach.

Pittsburg State -- Announced the resignation of Dennis Hill, men's basketball coach.

Pittsburgh -- Added women's soccer, effective with the 1996-97 academic year. Announced it will drop men's tennis and gymnastics, effective with the 1995-96 academic year.

San Jose State -- Announced the addition of women's soccer, beginning in the fall.

L St. John's -- Named Joe DeSantis assistant basketball coach.

Saint Louis -- Named Anne McCoy assistant director of athletics for business and finance.

Towson State -- Announced that F Merri Jones (Middle Township High School, N.J.) and F Silesia Stevens (Elizabeth Seton H.S., Bladensburg) have signed letters of intent and will play basketball.

UMBC -- Announced that Chris Turner (Boys' Latin) and Casey Hard (Cicero-North Syracuse HS/Bridgeport, N.Y.) have signed letters of intent and will play lacrosse.
