Thieves apparently crashed a stolen minivan into the front of an Eldersburg motorcycle shop and stole five off-road motorcycles early yesterday, state police in Westminster reported.
Gil Lindstrom, owner of the C&L; Cycle Shop in the 1500 block of Liberty Road, said the shop's burglar alarm sounded at 5:15 a.m. and that police arrived 15 minutes later to discover the break-in and theft.
Police said a minivan was stolen overnight from a resident on Slacks Road, about four blocks from the burglary, and that the color of the van matched paint found at the cycle shop where the vehicle smashed the door.
Mr. Lindstrom said the intruders smashed the minivan through the wide door of the shop and took three 1995 Honda Z250 and two 1995 Honda X80 dirt motorcycles. Two four-wheel all-terrain vehicles were removed from the shop but were left on the parking lot.
"Apparently they didn't have room in the van for them," he said.
Mr. Lindstrom, who has owned the motorcycle shop for 17 years, estimated the loss and damage at $8,000.
He said a similar break-in occurred there about a year ago.
The minivan has not been recovered.
Investigators said they have no suspects.
