Bomb threats to several Anne Arundel County schools and a Carroll County courthouse forced the evacuation of 6,500 students and hundreds of courthouse workers, but police found nothing suspicious.
In Anne Arundel, an early morning threat at the Old Mill school complex left nearly 4,000 students and faculty standing in the rain as county police officers and a bomb-sniffing dog canvassed the buildings but turned up nothing.
Other threats were made later to George Fox and Chesapeake Bay middle schools in Pasadena and Severna Park High School, county school board officials said.
In Carroll County, several hundred workers and visitors in the Circuit Courthouse and Courthouse Annex in Westminster were evacuated for two hours while police searched without success for a bomb that a caller at 9 a.m. said would explode in 15 minutes. Police were attempting to identify the caller late yesterday.
Classes and activities were canceled at Anne Arundel's Old Mill High and the adjoining north and south Old Mill middle schools in Millersville. Police were called to George Fox Middle and Severna Park High in the early afternoon, and students were evacuated briefly.
Officials said the threat to Chesapeake Bay Middle School did not appear credible, and students were not evacuated.
School officials said they were working with police to try to trace the calls.
