Ah, love. By the end of the summer, the Baltimore area should have its first That's Amore. The local chain will open in the spot where Pat & Mike's used to be, next to the Shops at Kenilworth. (The first two That's Amores are in Rockville and Vienna, Va.)
These are southern Italian, "family style" restaurants, which means entrees are designed for two or more to share. A popular dish, for instance, is the chicken Vesuvia, a 3-pound, whole roasted chicken served with roast potatoes. There are also more elegant choices on the menu, such as the veal Caprese accompanied by asparagus.
* Live It Not Diet -- what a great name for a restaurant. The Caribbean, East Indian and vegetarian cafe has reopened at 507 York Road in Towson after closing several years ago in the Mount Vernon area. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
* Every Tuesday Spike & Charlie's holds an inexpensive wine tasting, with experts on hand to discuss the themed wines of the week. Next week's tasting will feature eight Spanish wines along with fresh baked breads, cheese and fruit. The cost is $10. Spike & Charlie's is at 1225 Cathedral St.
* Morgan Millard in Roland Park has its new spring menu in place, with more "Southern nouveau" dishes such as Low Country crab cakes with jalapeno corn bread, and light fare for customers who drop in for a quick bite.
* I was skeptical, but I didn't say anything, when I reported a few months ago that Towson's newest Mexican restaurant was going to be named Barriga (stomach). Sure enough, as the opening date draws near -- now pushed back to May 12 -- Barriga has become Rosita's Cantina. Somehow that's a little more appetizing.
