Liquor store burglar fails to unlock cash register

A thief smashed the windows of Annapolis Liquors Sunday night but failed to unlock the cash register and may have cut himself on the broken glass, county police said.

Officers answered an alarm about 11:05 p.m. at the store in the 2400 block of Solomons Island Road and found four broken windows, police said.

A tire iron believed to have been used in the break-in was on the floor inside the store. Police found the cash register, spotted with blood, behind a trash bin at a Paceway store across the street. The register was damaged but was still locked, police said.
