Man is in fair condition after his car overturns


A Laurel man was in fair condition at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore yesterday after the car he was driving slammed into trees and flipped over Saturday morning, county police and hospital officials said.

Michael Anthony Washington, 27, of the 8100 block of Gorman Ave. was driving a 1991 Geo Metro south on Whiskey Bottom Road about 8:20 a.m. when he veered off the street, hit a sign, two small trees and a large tree. The car then turned over, trapping Mr. Washington inside, police said.

Laurel man arrested on drug charges

A Laurel man who was hitchhiking on Fort Meade Road was arrested on drug charges Friday afternoon, county police said.

Officer Vincent Butler was on routine patrol about 4:30 p.m. when he saw a man near Route 198 and Whiskey Bottom Road. When Officer Butler pulled up, the man slipped something into his right rear pocket, police said.

The man agreed to let the patrolman search him for weapons and drugs. During the search, Officer Butler found a piece of crack cocaine in the man's right back pocket, police said.

Douglas Unger, 40, of the 8900 block of Merril Lane was charged with possession of cocaine, police said.
