Strong games in goal against Penn and Brown merited the Ivy League Player of the Week award for Princeton's Patrick Cairns.
Cairns, a sophomore out of Boys' Latin, made six saves in the No. 5 Tigers' 19-2 rout of Penn and 11 in the 8-6 win over No. 11 Brown, holding the Bears scoreless for a 32-minute stretch from the second quarter to the fourth. Cairns leads Ivy League goalies with a 7.67 goals-against average.
* Lehigh junior attack Jill Altshuler (Catonsville) led Division I in scoring with 45 points (34 goals, 11 assists) after seven games. She was named Patriot League Player of the Week after bTC collecting nine goals and two assists against Bucknell and Villanova.
* Senior Kirsten Sadler (Centennial) has had a hand in 33 of Gettysburg's 115 goals, scoring 27 times and assisting on six goals. She is the team's second-leading scorer.
* Sophomore midfielder Todd Lowe (St. Paul's) had two goals in Lynchburg's win over Randolph-Macon and three in a loss to Roanoke. . . . Junior attack JoAnn Binko (Perry Hall) moved into sole possession of 10th place on Ithaca's career goals list with 71 after scoring one in the 8-5 win over William Smith. . . . Middlebury freshman Brandon Mollett (Boys' Latin) had three saves in an 18-4 win over Union and two in a 27-3 romp past St. Michaels in relief of No. 1 goalie Ian Wolfe. . . . Mary Jo Mahoney (Severna Park) is having a strong freshman season, helping Washington & Lee to a 6-2 record with four goals and an assist from her center position. She is tied for first on the team with 23 ground balls and is second in interceptions. . . . After grabbing nine ground balls in Hobart's win over Canisius, junior Bryan Riehl (Loyola) is tied for fourth on the team with 20.
Golf
Gibson Island's Mike Ramsden, who went to Sydney Grammer, a high school in Australia, is Lynchburg's No. 1 golfer with a 76.5 average in 15 rounds after his two-day total of 157 and a second-place finish in the Virginia State Tournament.
* East Carolina finished second in the Colonial Athletic Association championships behind Richmond, thanks in part to Gary Carpenter (Arundel), who shot 77-77-80-234 and is second on the team with a 76.2 average through five tournaments.
Miscellaneous
Freshman Aimee Vaughan (Dulaney) was named James Madison and Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year in soccer after collecting seven goals and six assists. Junior Samantha Andersch (Hammond) was selected as a JMU co-captain for next fall. . . . Stephanie Lazor (Northeast-AA), a senior softball tri-captain and shortstop, is batting .400 in 16 games for Shepherd and is second on the team in runs (17) and third in RBIs (20). She has four stolen bases in as many attempts.
