Man is held in thefts of luxury cars

A Southwest Baltimore man accused of stealing a Mercedes Benz off a car dealer's lot earlier this month was charged yesterday with stealing two other high-priced vehicles.

Troy White, 21, of the 2100 block of Boyd St., was being held in the Baltimore County Detention Center in lieu of $35,000 bond. He is charged with three counts of auto theft, three counts of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and three counts of destruction of property. Police were investigating a second suspect in the case.

The cars stolen and recovered were a 1995 Chevrolet Corvette valued at $41,000, a 1992 BMW worth $18,500 and a 1989 Mercedes Benz 300 station wagon valued at $24,000.

At about 7 p.m. on April 3, two men told a salesman at Russel BMW, in the 6700 block of Baltimore National Pike, that they wanted to buy a 1992 BMW. Moments later, they got into the car and drove off.

About an hour later, two men entered Fox Chevrolet in the 6600 block of Security Blvd. and told a salesman they wanted to trade in a 1993 Corvette for a 1995 Corvette. Again, the men were able to obtain keys and drive the new car off the lot.

On April 4, two men looking at a Mercedes Benz station wagon at R & H Motors in the 9700 block of Reisterstown Road told a salesman they wanted to trade in a 1993 Corvette. Minutes later, they drove off in the Mercedes.

Officer David Kruger of the K-9 division said two men and a woman were reported behaving suspiciously last Thursday night near the office of the Motel 6 in the 1600 block of Whitehead Court in Woodlawn. When police arrived, the men drove off in a car identified as the stolen Mercedes station wagon, leaving the woman behind.

The Mercedes was later found found abandoned on Rowe Lane near Johnnycake Road, where it had crashed into a tree after striking another car.

Officers spotted two men walking in the 6100 block of Johnnycake Road, and Officer Kruger said he recognized one of them as the driver of the Mercedes.
