School: Glenelg High School
Wes, a senior, has been a member of the National Honor Society for two years. He has a 3.86 grade point average and was a finalist in Maryland's Distinguished Scholar program. He is listed in the 1995 Who's Who of High School Students.
Wes played junior varsity football as a freshman and sophomore. He ran track for two years and lettered as a sophomore.
He is a staff member of the Glenelg yearbook, "Palindrome."
Wes is a member of the Glenelg Choir, Madrigal Singers and Barbershop Quartet.
He has had major roles in two musicals at school, "The Matchmaker," and "Big River." He had supporting roles in "Once Upon a Mattress" and "Les Miserables."
Wes is a member of the Glenelg United Methodist Youth Group and volunteered at a soup kitchen in Baltimore.
He enjoys music of "all kinds," skiing, weightlifting and bicycling. Wes has worked at the Pizza Hut in Clarksville since he was 15.
Plans: Wes has been accepted by the University of Maryland and Clemson University and is "leaning" toward Clemson. He wants to pursue ceramic engineering, the manipulation of inorganic materials for uses such as containers for nuclear waste.
His comments: Wes said he tries to balance his studies with athletics, working out in the school weight room and running several times a week.
Wes credits his teachers, family and employers for his success in school. "I have had a lot understanding from my choir teachers, my family and my boss at work. They work around my schedules."
