Meeting on budget is moved to school
County officials have changed the location of Monday evening's informational meeting on the county budget to the Carrolltowne Elementary School cafeteria, 6542 Ridge Road, Sykesville.
The 7 p.m. meeting is one in a series of meetings sponsored by the Department of Management and Budget to provide residents with more information about the proposed fiscal 1996 budget. It had been scheduled at the Eldersburg branch of the Carroll County Public Library.
County Commissioners have said they need to raise the piggyback income tax to 60 percent from 50 percent to pay for new schools and other capital projects in the next six years. They must adopt a budget in late May.
The county operating budget for fiscal 1996 is expected to total about $150 million. The current year's budget is $144 million.
Other public informational meetings are scheduled at 7 p.m. April 17 at the Mount Airy library branch and 7 p.m. April 20 at the Taneytown library branch.
