Kelemen honored by heart association

The Howard County division of the American Heart Association honored cardiologist Michael Kelemen last weekend for his work in the medical profession and the community.

Dr. Kelemen, a Columbia resident, was president of the Heart Association's Maryland chapter from 1989 to 1991.

Saperstein promoted to district manager

Michael Saperstein of Dorsey-based Saval Foods has been promoted to district manager for the Washington metropolitan area.

He will hire and train salespeople for the Northern Virginia area.

Smith named president of business owners

Steve Smith, president and founder of Central Air Conditioning Contractors in Columbia, has been named president of the Business Owners' Association of Oakland Ridge Industrial Center in Columbia.

Mr. Smith was elected president of the association after serving five years as vice president. He replaces Norman Rockwell Jr., president of Northern Chesapeake Builders.

Schillo is honored as top salesperson

Jim Schillo recently received national recognition as Ryder Truck Rental's 1994 Salesperson of the Year.

Mr. Schillo handles truck lease sales and is based at Ryder's Corridor Road facility in Howard County. He joined Ryder's sales team in 1987. This is the second time he has earned this honor.

Tim Brooks recently received national recognition as Ryder Truck Rental's 1994 Rookie Salesperson of the Year. He handles truck lease sales and is based in Baltimore.

Rhonda Dermer was named Ryder Truck Rental's Account Executive of the Year for the Mid-Atlantic Region. She has handled truck lease sales in Beltsville for 16 years.


County job fair set for April 28

The Maryland Department of Economic and Employment Development and the Howard County Job Service Employer Committee, will sponsor the Howard County Job Fair April 28 at the Maryland Army National Guard Armory, 4244 Montgomery Road, Ellicott City.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., job seekers will have an opportunity to talk with representatives from companies looking for individuals with professional, technical, managerial, financial, clerical, health care, education and hospitality experience.

The Maryland Job Service will provide information and job search assistance. Job seekers will be able to register for Maryland Job Service programs.

Employers will have the opportunity to obtain information and resource materials about the services that DEED's office provide to Maryland businesses.

Participants are encouraged to bring resumes and be prepared to apply for jobs. Admission is free.

Howard County employers are invited to participate in the job fair by registering for a booth.

Deerfield announces opening of center

Deerfield Senior Services has announced the opening of its newest center for senior day and evening care at 630 Dobbin Road in Columbia.

Deerfield operates a center in Westminster and plans to open more centers in Annapolis, Wellesley, Mass., and Totowa, N.J., this year.

Weidemann to handle campaigns for Synergy

Weidemann and Associates, a Columbia-based graphic design and communications firm, is handling the advertising and promotional campaigns for Synergy, a women's health club in Columbia.

Owner Wendy Weidemann also announced that Weidemann and Associates was selected to develop promotional materials for HOST, HealthCare Open Systems and Trials, based in Washington, D.C.

Ms. Weidemann donated her design services to Executive Women's Network, developing the invitations and advertising for its Spring Gala. The gala raise more than $9,000 for EWN's mentoring program and scholarship fund.
