City police want participants for 5-mile 'Chase'

The Baltimore Police Department is seeking participants for an April 23 five-mile race called the "Police Chase." Proceeds from registration fees will benefit the Special Olympics.

Runners will start at police headquarters on Fayette Street and wind through Fells Point and Canton before reaching the finish line at Rash Field, just south of the Inner Harbor near the Maryland Science Center. A mile fun-run also is planned on a more direct route to Rash Field.

Registration for the races begins at headquarters at 6:30 a.m. April 23. The five-mile race starts at 9 a.m.; the mile run at 9:05 a.m. Registration fee is $12.

Runners who wish to preregister can send checks or money orders to Lt. Alan Kogut at Southeastern District, 5710 Eastern Ave., Baltimore 21224.

People who register by mail need to pick up race packages at Southeastern District either April 21 or 22.

The first 1,000 people to register get free T-shirts. The first three male and female finishers in each of six age groups will receive trophies.

For more information, call Lieutenant Kogut at 396-2422.
